ICE Agents Detain Workers at Kansas City Food Processing Plant

On July 9, 2026, agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a unit of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), carried out an enforcement operation at La Fontanella Foods, located at 1620 E. 8th Street in Northeast Kansas City, Missouri. Witnesses at the scene reported that between six and eight workers were escorted out of the building and transported in an unmarked white van. The operation began around 9:45 a.m. and agents left the premises at approximately 12:13 p.m. ICE confirmed they were executing "a federal criminal search warrant in Kansas City" but declined to provide further details. Agents also removed boxes of documents and computers from the facility. Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forté clarified that the operation "was not an immigration raid" and that his office did not participate in executing the warrant. However, his office did arrest an unregistered sex offender identified at the scene. Immigrant advocacy groups, including Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR), documented the events and issued a statement reminding the community of their rights: the right to remain silent, the right not to sign documents, and the right to speak with an attorney, regardless of immigration status. If you or someone you know was affected by this operation, please reach out to local community support organizations for legal guidance.
